Q: What is the process to become an
Unarmed Security Guard?
A: The required course for an unarmed security guard is 01E (Unarmed
Security Guard). During training at CJSI, we will fingerprint
you and take your photo. Your training will be electronically
submitted to DCJS. You, the student, will need to submit the necessary
registration paperwork, fingerprint card, and fees to DCJS. The

registration with your DCJS 99 number. You then need to notify
us of your registration number and we will then send your photo

A: If within 60 days, DCJS receives notification of your in-service

required to take the entry level training (Source: DCJS Administrative

to meet all of the initial registration requirements, including entry

Q: I have other security background (military, law enforcement, etc).
Do I have to complete all of the training to become certified?
A: Only DCJS can make that determination. Please refer to them
