TOPICAL OUTLINE
THIS COURSE OF TRAINING IS REQUIRED FOR CONSERVATORS OF THE PEACE. THE INDIVIDUAL ENTERING THIS FIELD SHOULD HAVE A FIRM COMMITMENT TO THE ETHICAL STANDARDS PROMOTED AS WELL AS DEMONSTRATE A STRONG PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE.

SPECIAL CONSERVATORS OF THE PEACE (06E)
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this period of instruction, the student will correctly indicate the following on a written examination, or demonstrate during practical exercises, in accordance with the instruction provided:
- Section §19.2-13, §9.1-150.1 thru. §9.1-150.4, §15.2-1737 from the Code of Virginia, which relates to the Special Conservator of the Peace.
- The definitions as it relates to the Special Conservator of the Peace.
- The individual will understand legal procedures regarding due process, civil law and criminal law.
- The individual will understand the authority, jurisdiction, registration, bond and liability of the employers as it relates to Section §19.2-13.
- That the court may limit or prohibit the carrying of weapons by any Special Conservator of the Peace.
- That civil and criminal liability may be warranted in excessive force or deadly force cases.
- The definition of “probable cause”.
- The definition of “exclusionary rule”.
- That the individual understands proper arrest procedures
- The types of evidence.
- The definition of “evidence”
- That the individual understands the judicial process.
- Laws regarding Crimes Against Peace & Order.
- Laws regarding Crimes Against Persons.
- Laws regarding Crimes Against Property.
- Laws regarding Crimes Against Health & Safety.
- Laws regarding Crimes Involving Fraud.
- That the individual understand the arrest and court process regarding juveniles.
- That the individual understands how to obtain and arrest warrant, appear before a magistrate and issue a Virginia Uniform Summons.
- That the individual can articulate training and experience when testifying in court.
- That the individual understands the United States Constitution and Virginia Constitution.
- That the individual understands Search & Seizure, Consensual Encounters and Exigent Circumstances.
- That the individual understands the Investigative Detention/Terry Stop.
